Islamic radical led coup attempt foiled in Bangladesh
Ratan Sachdev
Jan. 21, 2012

Bangladesh Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) elite force arrested five members of Hizb ut-Tahrir from Dhaka yesterday, a day after the army said it had foiled a coup allegedly plotted by Maj Syed Mohammad Ziaul Huq, said to have links with the banned Islamist outfit.
Almost 26 years back, on August 15, 1975, Sheokh Hasina's father Mujibur Rehman was killed in a similar coup by some lower end military officers supporting Islamists in Bangladesh.
The army spokesman had said Maj Huq was an effort to implement his anti-state conspiracies sent e-mails to different serving officers to execute his operation plans on January 9 and 10.
